  • February 15, 2008 SNEAD ISLAND, FLORIDA Marlow Yachts Miami Int’l Boat Show Debut Party Marlow Yachts Limited, Inc., hosted their annual Miami International Boat Show Debut Party on the evening prior to the show’s opening at the historic Miami Beach Rod and Reel Club located on Hibiscus Island. The celebration  commemorated not only the debut of the new Marlow Explorer 86 Cockpit Motor Yacht, but the remarkable achievement of their 100th hull launch as well. Set against the elegant backdrop of Biscayne Bay and the classic Venetian architecture of the exclusive enclave, over 120 guests, media and dealership representatives from around the world gathered to celebrate this extraordinary achievement. The  brilliant hues of sunset provided additional ambience and caused one guest, a well-known member of the media community, to remark that the event was “the hottest spot in town.”

Guests attending the reception were served an assortment of  hors d’oeuvres made from organically certified ingredients, supporting the company’s ongoing commitment to protecting and preserving the environment. Local artist Peter Batan entertained the group with a soft jazz sound.

“We are gratified to see our new products so well received and excited that our latest launch represents the 100th Marlow Explorer currently cruising the oceans of the world”, said David Marlow, Chairman of Marlow Yachts Ltd.  “Our goal is, and has always been,  to offer our customers the finest quality and the most advanced technological yacht available in the yachting world and our new flagship 86 CMY represents just that.”

In addition to the Marlow Explorer 86 CMY, party attendees were able to inspect the Marlow Explorer 57E Command Bridge and the Marlow Prowler 375 Classic, powered with the new Evinrude 300HP E-Tec outboards in triplicate. This nimble yet classic yacht offers speeds of over 55 mph while surrounded by understated elegance and piano quality joinery, the hallmark of all Marlow Products.

  • January 16, 2008 • SNEAD ISLAND, FLORIDA • Marlow Yachts plans owner's rendezvous in Nantucket Aug. 2008 • This coming August 8-10th, Marlow Yachts Limited, Inc. will host the first annual Nantucket Rendezvous for their owners. So you have an idea of how far out initial plans must be made for such a popular destination, we requested dockage at the Nantucket Boat Basin in May of 2007.  Not easy to get dockage on Nantucket in August! But, we have it secured, just for you. The weekend will include a traditional clam bake, island tour, dockside dining and of course, we will have plenty of bicycles available for you to do some exploring on your own. What could be better than arriving on an island with everything you want, already arranged for you!  Originally a booming whaling port, Nantucket has been named a National Historic District and has changed little architecturally since the 17th century, as seaside cottages and old-fashioned lamps still line its streets.  At the harbor front, where the great whaling ships set out on their hazardous journeys to return years later - if at all - pleasure boats now find safe harbor in one of the finest docking facilities in the world.

The island truly is an Atlantic gem.  More than 36% of the island’s land has been protected and will never be built upon. Nantucket has more than 800 houses still standing that were built before the Civil War and  has more buildings listed in the National Register of Historic Places qualifying as totally preserved buildings than anywhere in Massachusetts including Boston, Plymouth, and Salem.

Whether you are drawn to Nantucket for its historical integrity, natural beauty, cultural offerings, world-class dining or shopping, or simply the relaxed atmosphere and island-style way of life, we  hope that you will  mark your calendar now, to join us this August.

For more information about this event contact Marlow Yachts LTD, telephone 800.362.2657 or Email: sales@marlowyachts.com.

  • January 9, 2008 • SNEAD ISLAND, FLORIDA • Marlow Yachts LTD Becomes NMMA Certified
Marlow Yachts LTD has been certified under the National Marine Manufacturers Association’s Certification Program. While all boats in the United States must meet U.S. Coast Guard regulations, boats built by manufacturers participating in the NMMA Certified Program must also meet the more comprehensive standards set by the American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC).
“Earning the ‘NMMA Certified’ designation is a major achievement for Marlow Yachts,” says Chairman David Marlow. “It is independent evidence for our customers that we’re committed to building a quality product and have the utmost concern for their safety and well being.”

The NMMA Certification program covers approximately 31 categories of standards, which vary by boat type and size and include: fuel systems; ventilation; passenger and weight capacity; horsepower capacity; flotation; electrical systems; navigation lights; warning label placement and guidelines; and steering systems. The NMMA Certified label on a Marlow Yacht lets you know it was built to meet and often exceed, strict quality and safety standards established by the U.S. Coast Guard and the American Boat & Yacht Council. Certified boats must also pass rigorous annual inspections from independent third-party inspectors. As a result, U.S. Coast Guard statistics show NMMA Certified boats have been shown to be safer than non-certified boats.

Marlow Yachts LTD builds yachts in the 37-86 foot range for long-range cruising in weather many yachts stay in port. “We are proud to achieve this important milestone in our continuing pursuit of yachting perfection. Our promise to our customers as we prepare to deliver our 100th hull is to continue to lead the industry in technology, innovation, quality of workmanship and materials with above all else, integrity to our customers, employees and suppliers,” said David Marlow, Chairman.

  • October 2007 • News from the factory David Marlow from Marlow Norsemen Shipyard

We now have dealers on the west coast of the US and Canada, the east coast, the UK, Spain and Australia. We could, if we chose to increase production, have at least six more, as that number have repeatedly lobbied us for consideration. For now we will hold tight, as our production is as high as we would like for it to be at the two factories.

There are 13 Marlow Explorers here in various stages of construction at this time and two Prowlers. In our Tainan factory there are five more and one at the port awaiting a ship. It is a very busy, fast paced environment with a huge number of containers filled with supplies arriving daily, chockablock full of raw materials that will be turned into value added art.

Our frp department is expanding our role as world leader in the process of infusion. This is the act of injecting specialized resin under very high pressure directly into the exotic reinforcement fabrics that make up a Marlow Explorer. We use a proprietary Full Stack Infusion© method, that basically does the entire structure in one shot. We have invented and perfected this process and it is absolutely light years ahead of any other method.

On this trip we have sea trialed a new 61E equipped with a deeper reduction gear to assess the effect on performance. It is positive! We have recorded a knot gain in speed at identical fuel burn figures. That is equivalent to adding about 100 horsepower for free! A huge gain.

This new boat, headed for a customer in Seattle, boasts a wonderful option that solves a lot of issues for us. We have developed and installed a hydraulic swim platform that looks exactly like our normal one but lowers into the water about three feet on hidden stainless steel rams. Totally unlike the pot metal or aluminum ones we see corroding away on the transoms of a lot boats along the waterway, this one is shiny gelcoated fiberglass, teak and 316L stainless steel. It looks and works beautifully and has the ability to lift or launch a Jet Ski or inflatable directly into the water at the push of a button. For swimmers, it can lower so one can sit in a chaise lounge submerged to the chosen depth. It is a big play pad, being about seventeen feet wide and about 5 feet fore to aft. Imagine a 5’X17’ lounging pool attached to your boat!

We are about to ship a new 78 CB to a customer in Mexico that is just too special to be described easily.  The family will use it for both fishing and cruising, being avid devotees of both sports. It carries 3500 gallons of fuel and reaches a speed of 32 knots. It should live very nicely in its new home, which is a purpose built boathouse with its own built in Travelift to haul it out when not in use. Wow, I usually am not too bad at coveting but that pushes the envelope.

Our metal shop continues to amaze me with its development and growth. We produce a great deal of our own hardware here to a standard others cannot come close to. Take a close look at that sector of Marlow Artistry.

We have just received several Teak logs that would be the envy of any company. We buy these logs at the source to get what we want in color and quality, at the right price. Imagine a stack of sawn teak, as tall as the peak on a normal one story home, and covering a floor space of about 120’ X 65’. Yes that is a lot of teak. We believe it to be the largest stock in the world at any boat company or lumber yard. To replace it in the world ecosystem we have just completed planting over one thousand Tectonis Grandis (Teak) trees. This number will completely mitigate our usage and several others to boot.

The ability and willingness to go to the source allows us to accommodate some unusual requests. Recently we were asked by a customer for a new 72E to build them a boat with a very noble, dark and richly grained wood interior. Our sawyer found, selected and purchased a teak log that due to its location and the organic content of the soil had grown extremely dark, near ebony like with slightly lighter hues throughout its rich grain structure. Though originally against the idea I became willing when I heard of the entire equation, including a décor scheme that will go beautifully with it. The yacht is now about 60% completed and the look will be stunning with contrasting fabrics and décor of arctic white. It is a very large job to go though an entire log and match the grains so that the wood at the entry slowly morphs and blends as it winds its way to the rope locker below and forward. I am confident the owners will be ecstatic.

It is a great privilege to be trusted with the plans of so many people. May I take the opportunity to say thank you all. I am more than aware that you had many choices. I am honored you chose Marlow to help realize your dreams. Along the way I and all at Marlow are allowed to live vicariously in your dreams.

environmentally green Marlow-Norsemen facility near Xiamen, China. Resins from the Epoxy family are infused, into
Carbon, Kevlar and SAN Foam with specifically engineered biaxial fabrics to produce a monocoque structure free of rattles
    and leaks.
The stunning exterior appearance and interior accommodations of the yacht were carefully designed for maximum
performance and comfort at sea, yet artistic detail remains true to the heritage of every Marlow. The unique placement of the
three separate crew cabins located amidships insures privacy for all and a comfortable location for the crew at sea. Tasteful,
functional and well crafted, the accommodations, including crew quarters are finished to perfection. Boasting two separate
entries providing both privacy for crew and owner as well as safety at sea, this unique offering is well able to bear the name
Marlow Explorer. The transom area incorporates a large toy box for additional storage of water toys, easily accessed from
her large cockpit. Once again Marlow has redefined performance, quality and value in one of the most technologically
advanced yachts afloat. Marlow Yachts will celebrate the 100th Marlow Explorer, the 86 Cockpit Motor Yacht, in high
style at a gala Debut Party the evening prior to the Miami International Boat Show, at the Rod & Reel Club, Miami Beach,

  • Snead Island, Florida August 6, 2007 MARLOW YACHTS INTRODUCES THE PROWLER 375 CLASSIC OUTBOARD With the advent of the exceptionally reliable, economical and quiet running large outboard engines, Marlow Yachts is now offering the Marlow Prowler 375 Classic with twin or triple outboards. Exemplified by the ultra high technology E-Tec from Evinrude, the powerful new 4 strokes from Suzuki and the latest Yamahas, outboard power in mid range yachts has become a viable alternative to conventional diesel power. The new engine offerings provide the advantages of extremely shallow draft, much less than the jets that are proving to be high maintenance and poor performing by comparison. In areas of high barnacle growth the outboards may be tilted completely clear of the water at dockside, eliminating marine growth or stray corrosive effect common to the aluminum components found in jets. In comparing efficiency, these new outboards deliver remarkable performance compared to the jets and rival the best of the diesel inboards in overall economy.

For the Prowler 375, Marlow-Norsemen have developed and engineered a proprietary transom mounting system that removes the engines from the immediate cockpit area providing increased performance and reduced sound levels. Service is accomplished by sitting on a wide transom seat in comfort rather than hanging over the transom as normally seen.

Though it is expected that the diesel inboard engines will continue to occupy a large share of the market, the high initial and maintenance costs associated with jets will continue their fall from the power of choice for many. The advanced technology offered today by companies such as Evinrude with their E-Tec series, will cause these compact power plants to be seen on more and larger transoms.

The Marlow Prowler 375 powered with triple E-Tec outboards is a stellar performer and will offer great economy and durability. She carries over 400 gallons of fuel in a single fiberglass fuel tank, just like the larger Marlow Explorers. This system eliminates the surety of a corroded aluminum fuel tank that will one day leak fuel into the bilges and makes fuel management fully automatic.

Both the Prowler models - Classic and Open are Full Stack infused, which produces strength in the laminate that is simply far and away stronger than any other method of laminating the company has tested.  Both are produced alongside the world class Marlow Explorer Yachts, benefiting from all the technological enhancements that are applied on an ongoing basis.

The new Marlow Prowler Classic 375, powered with triple E-Tec 250 hp outboards will debut at the October 2007 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, at Bahia Mar, Dock F-G, slips 20-24.

  • July 1, 2007 • Marlow Yachts Limited, Inc., Expands their Presence at the 2007 Fort Lauderdale Boat Show
Marlow/Norsemen will be staging their largest in-water display ever at the 2007 Fort Lauderdale International Boat
Show. New models on display will include the Marlow Explorer 57E, 70E, 78E and the Adventure Cruiser, the Marlow
    Open Prowler 375.

The Marlow Explorer 78E that will be showcased features an interior that takes the concept of semi-production manufacturing to the very highest level. The high-gloss, custom interior created at the owners request, required an additional 10,000 man hours to perfect over the normal production time of a Marlow Masterpiece. Created by the artists at Marlow Norseman Shipyard, using techniques and tools that have changed little in the past 300 years, each craftsman designed the method of construction, from the raw wood originally purchased as a whole log, down to the last detail of joinery. Years of learning the craft by apprenticing with master craftsmen come together in the meticulous creation of this flawless, high-gloss interior, highlighted by incredibly difficult joinery, and cove and crown moldings with perfect grain matching. Rich Ebony inlays subtly mark decorative joinery reminiscent of the Renaissance Period. The exotic curves seen throughout the Marlow 78E interior on railings and trim are not bent by applying steam or moisture, for this would introduce unacceptable stresses to the wood causing failure at a later date. Rather, elaborate adjustable jigs are constructed that allow the part to be bent in complex curves, complimenting the artistry that is the Hallmark of Marlow. The curved cabinet door faces are carved from a single block of wood after careful planning to assure the maximum number of parts from a given flitch of exotic wood. This technique is rarely seen today, in fact not since the 18th century bow front chests and similar articles of fine furnishings and cabinetry has this method been used except in the most rare of circumstances by world class artisans. A minimum of ten coats of varnish follow, with not a single grain of dust allowed to mar the finish. This level of devotion to the best possible product is evident in every element of the yacht, including the beautifully built tool storage boxes found in the engine room and detailed finish in every machinery space, visible or not.

The Marlow Explorer 78E is one of the most popular in the Explorer Series and due to a keen focus on listening, adapting and responding to the needs and values of Explorer owners, a myriad of new design features are incorporated throughout the yacht. Carrying 3450 gallons of fuel in fiberglass tanks for simple fuel management, this yacht has extreme range coupled with outstanding speed, reaching over 30 knots on her initial sea trials. The Explorer 78E is offered with another unique option residing in its own uniquely designed space. A 310 HP Yanmar Diesel Cruise Pod located under the large swim platform. This third engine powers the yacht silently at displacement speeds extending her potential range to over 4,000 miles. For intercoastal travel, when the large Caterpillar mains are not required, this reasonably priced option is perfect for the task. It allows extremely efficient cruising at displacement speeds while reducing maintenance and running costs by extending the maintenance intervals for the main engines.

Marlow/Norsemen’s commitment at every step is to build the finest yachts on earth- yachts that will bear witness to the
commitment to excellence long after the designers, builders and those who bring them to the marketplace are gone.

  • June 13, 2007 Marlow/Norsemen Soar Ahead in Infusion Technology Marlow/Norsemen, working in their own in-house testing facility has designed, developed, perfected and implemented yet another stunning advance in state of the art yacht building. Marlow/Norsemen has developed the Full Stack Infusion© process for the complete hull or any component in the yacht manufacturing process, eliminating the possibility of contamination in secondary bonding processes in the important structures. In the majority of failures found in FRP products, the cause is traced to difficulties encountered in the secondary laminating process. Secondary laminating is described as laminating over a cured surface previously laminated. By infusing the entire hull, numerous secondary processes are eliminated. This exciting new development allows the entire structure to be infused, from outer skin coat through coring to inner skin, in one shot infusion. Moreover, Full Stack Infusion© saves approximately 2,000 lbs. in an average yacht, while providing far greater strength than could ever be achieved using common methods. It is believed that this is a first in Infusion Technology, other than on very small parts such as lids, hatches, etc. In so doing, secondary lamination operations that risk contamination are eliminated, resulting in a textbook perfect laminate of far greater strength than could be achieved by any other method currently known. Marlow/Norsemen has, since Hull Number 1, produced yachts using their own proprietary and advanced methods, developed in house and working with such industry titans as Corecel, DuPont, Swanson, Cook, and other industry leaders. Beginning in 2000, with highly advanced vacuum bagging techniques utilizing elaborately designed and developed tooling far beyond the industry norm, Marlow has continuously moved the bar ever higher in every area of fine yacht building. “RIVAT”© (Resin Infused Vacuum Assisted Transfer) was developed over a 5 year period. This process delivers the precise amount of resin into the laminate, no more, no less, resulting in a textbook percentage of resin to fiber content. The specifically designed and engineered fabrics and coring materials are cut on templates to fit the hull shape precisely and installed. The infusion process exerts enormous pressure per square foot on the laminating process to create a laminate that is more like Titanium. This is superior especially when compared to a normal hand rolled lay-up containing excess resin, generic general purpose fabrics and the process of rolling with mops, rollers and other low technology products. While both methods work, the quality and strength of the final product are not remotely similar. In high technology Aerospace industries, where failure is not an option, we note the rapid movement to infusion technology, abandoning the 1950s methods of hand laminating. To augment this type of construction Marlow/Norsemen specifies top quality modified epoxy resins in lieu of general purpose polyester. Resins are what bind the yacht together, gluing the fabrics to one another. Their adhesive quality is what determines whether or not the glue will match the strength of the exotic laminates used. While it is true that there are thousands of polyester yachts built to date, neither the USA, nor the UK military will award an adhesive rating to Polyester, as its qualities are so low compared to epoxies, phenolics, etc. Using these ground breaking infusion processes, Marlow/Norsemen has begun production of the new Marlow Explorer 86 Cockpit Motor Yacht for an experienced owner, his second Marlow Explorer. Slated for debut in early 2008, this stunning new entry has confirmed retail orders through hull number six. Bureau Veritas has certified this structure to class under the VERITASTAR program, a further testament to the integrity of the yacht by meeting all the requirements set forth by this respected ship classification society.

  • May 12, 2007  Marlow-Norsemen Developing Tree Plantation  Marlow-Norsemen is growing Teak and other forest seedlings for a plantation that will completely mitigate their usage of hardwoods in the production of their yachts, ultimately replacing those used on a three to one ratio. This miniature plantation will mimic a natural forest ecosystem with a variety of hard and softwoods including understory plants. To date, Marlow-Norsemen has planted more than ten thousand hardwood trees including Mahogany, Teak, Eucalyptus, Lychee, Dragon eye, Apple and Pear. In addition, 100% of the vegetables and seasonal fruits used in the galley at the Marlow-Norsemen VIP center now comes from their own gardens, which are fertilized with ash from the hot water generated from factory wood shavings mixed with dust collected from the furniture section of the factory. No pesticides or artificial fertilizers are used.

Irrigation for the plantation and vegetable gardens are provided by a dedicated cistern that is strategically placed along the river bank adjacent to the VIP center. Water that is used is returned to the same river after filtration through 50 meters of natural sand and stone, cleaner than when removed. This effort has thus far totally removed approximately twenty people from the high cost of unsustainable food production processes. It is Marlow-Norsemen’s goal to reach 100% organic food production for its 600 plus employees by encouraging and supporting local ocean and farm producers providing non-chemically enhanced food products with minimal distribution costs. It is the company’s belief that long term crop production can be enhanced by eliminating the scorched earth production policies that kill all insects including beneficial elements of the life chain including honeybees, hummingbirds and other natural pollinators. Elimination of the harmful chemicals and artificial fertilizers with their high production and distribution costs coupled with the elimination of the distribution costs of the end product by cooperating with local small farms should result in a positive gain for the environment and all beneficiaries, which include every living creature on earth.

We can all help balance the ecological scale while eliminating the buildup of harmful chemicals in our food chain by supporting local truck farming enterprises in lieu of vast factories thousands of miles away churning out artificially enhanced, hormone laden food products. Marlow-Norsemen are advocates of the Rachel Carlson school of thought regarding breaking the ever increasing environmental degradation of our world resources by thoughtless human activities, hopefully erasing the specter of a Silent Spring.

Tropical foliage rarely seen, including a Kapok tree spanning over 125 feet across its lush understory, covers the island. Two century old live oaks with exotic orchids lent their fragrance and ambience to a wonderful celebration of business and pleasure.  Accessible by boat only, over 100 owners and guests arrived on board 34 yachts to this private exclusive island.

This event is extremely popular with Marlow Explorer owners and is a signature event for Marlow Marine Sales. Daily activities included a group dinghy excursion to Cayo Costa State Park, an afternoon excursion to Boca Grande for lunch and shopping and several seminars, including the effective use of fire extinguishers, hosted by the Useppa Fire and Safety Organization, the latest electronics presented by SunCoast Electronics and Raymarine, and a recent owner’s experience traversing the Great Loop.

The event was topped off with a TOGA Party Saturday evening, complete with belly dancing. High Seas Technology was on hand, awarding an EPIRB to the Life of the Toga Party, Guy Gravel and Christiane Gosselin.

The Marlow Marine Cruising Club has been in existence for over 12 years and is comprised of Marlow Explorer and other owners of fine quality yachts that Marlow Marine sells and services. The Cruising Club currently hosts one rendezvous per season and publishes a tri-yearly Club Newsletter that garners praise from coast to coast.  Marlow companies sponsor a variety of events for their owners and guests over the boating seasons.

  • April 25, 2007 SNEAD ISLAND, FLORIDA  • Exploring Galley Cuisine - Marlow’s Own Recipes Now Published Through her commitment to fresh, seasonal, and organic foods, Barbara Marlow  has created “Exploring Galley Cuisine”, a series of seasonal seafood meals, gleaned from a lifetime of cruising with her husband, David Marlow. These recipes take on the big topics: romance, the road within, and food.   Her collection succeeds in capturing the universal elements of dining pleasure, no matter where you may find yourself.

Carefully edited and presented, the recipes are introduced with a brief synopsis and commented on by her personal experiences.  Reading these recipes is sometimes like eating salt peanuts, you just can’t stop.   They are so complete, fragrant, and satisfying that you close the book, look out the window and let the images and ideas fade gently away.

Barbara Marlow’s book is a gentle manifesto as much as it is a cookbook. Her descriptions mingle the perfume of fresh tree picked lemons, the sheen of hours-old salmon, and the quiver of a fresh picked zucchini blossom. Most of these recipes are easy to do at home, even if you don’t have access to the fresh seafood ingredients that Barbara does while cruising, but that is really the point of this cookbook. She encourages cooks to be guided by their senses and to use local produce in recipes inspired by the rich flavors of land and sea. Your backyard may not be Provence, but it can be just as tasty if you do some foraging in your own neighborhood.

Reading this book is like sitting down at a worldwide table, tasty, engrossing, a Babel of flavors and attitudes that combine to a very satisfying meal.

Barbara Marlow is an accomplished home cook and yachtswoman, who has cruised with her husband for over 30 years.  She has collected these recipes together from her submissions to the Marlow Marine Cruising Club’s newsletter during the past 12 years.

Barbara Marlow’s “Exploring Galley Cuisine” is available for purchase only through Marlow Marine Sales.  Contact sales@marlowmarine.com or call 800.362.2657 for more information.

  • October 5, 2006 Marlow Yachts to Debut Explorer 72E-LR Marlow Yachts will debut the latest addition to the Explorer fleet, the Explorer 72E Long Range Cruiser, at the 2006 Miami International Boat Show.  Unique in the industry, the Explorer 72E-LR is designed with a bulbous bow developed for high speed. The high-speed bulb design allows the Explorer 72E-LR to perform smoothly and fuel efficient at a top speed of 21 knots with standard Lugger 700 HP engines.  With a range of 1,300 miles at a cruise speed of 19 knots and over 3,000 miles at trawler speed, this new offering is built to the top world class certified by Lloyds GMBS for Offshore Class One (Ocean Class).  There are no other boats in this category that have been certified to this level.

The Explorer 72E-LR sports a totally new pilothouse, longer waterline and additional fuel capacity compared to her sister ships. Continuing the design principal of the very best and most technologically advanced, the 72E-LR interiors will be built using Nida Core Honeycomb, veneered to the company’s lofty standards in their own fully staffed and equipped mill. You will find no plywood beneath the exquisite furniture and panels in the Explorer 72E-LR.  Nida Core Honeycomb composite interiors save thousands of pounds in weight and increase the strength of the interior panels of three compared to plywood.  With her 20’ 1 ½ “ beam, the immediate impression is you are aboard a much larger yacht. The honeycomb does not rot, peel or warp, ever.

The structure of the Explorer 72E-LR is a study in advanced engineering and her exterior synthetic teak is another groundbreaking advancement.  Developed by the Marlow design team, the proprietary synthetic teak looks precisely like teak and saves approximately 500 board feet of teak per yacht and 1,500 lbs. in weight.  At the same time maintenance is reduced and varnish will last 3-4 times as long.

  • July 12, 2006 • Marlow Yachts Limited, Inc., announces the  appointment of Gary Carlin as Director of Manufacturing for Asian Operations. Having enormous experience in every facet of high technology yacht construction, Gary Carlin stands amongst an elite group in a talented field of experienced technicians and practitioners in the art of marine construction.

Although Gary tinkered with small boats during his youth, his ability burst upon the world yachting scene when he built his first racing sailboat, designed by his equally talented brother in-law, the esteemed Ron Holland of Holland Yacht Design. Gary then  founded a small boat building company called Kiwi Boats near Clearwater, Florida. The company became preeminent in the world of high technology yachts, enjoying success in every regatta entered against the world’s best designers, sailors and yachts. Building over one hundred custom boats from 24’ to 85’, Gary delivered and raced these yachts around the world from 1973 to 1988. “The “secret” to Kiwi Boats success was from the first material selected, to be technically superior with the highest level of quality and finish, never building anything that did not evoke enormous confidence at sea with your own family aboard. That philosophy blends perfectly with Marlow Yachts in every facet” said David Marlow, Chairman of Marlow Yachts Limited, Inc.

A few of Gary’s accolades include:

Developing the first Kevlar / Glass hybrid with DuPont.

Developed the first carbon fiber unidirectional fabrics.

First builder to use vinyl ester.

Designed and built one of the first vacuum bagged epoxy laminates.

Pioneered fully engineered structures ridding them of useless space robbing framing and unnecessary supports.

As the exotic racing boat business slowed, Gary teamed with a cruising yacht building business becoming Trident Shipbuilding, building large sailing yachts up to 115’. During the normal course of business and carrying a stellar reputation for quality, Gary built exotic one of a kind motor yachts up to 155 feet in length. Westship Yachts acquired Trident shipbuilding and became aware that Northrop Grumman was in need of advanced composite technical and manufacturing skills in their newest Virginia Class Submarines and production of high strength composite components for the US Navy’s newest aircraft carriers and submarines. While at Grumman Northrop, a key military supplier for the Pentagon, Gary helped Grumman develop components that help evade detection and provide superior armament with higher strength and lower weight.

“As Chairman, I could not be more proud than to have the pleasure of welcoming Gary and his formidable talents to our young, growing and dynamic company. We intend to lead, not follow and Gary will become an integral part of that leadership” said David Marlow.

  • INTRODUCING THE NEWEST MARLOW YACHT... The MARLOW PROWLER 375 is a high-tech, high-quality yacht with the timeless lines of a commuter or picnic boat, this is the first in the new series of PROWLER express cruisers. With its sleek profile and its flag-blue and oyster-white coatings, the look is stunning. Its two-foot draft and 30 knot speed (with standard twin 315hp Yanmars) give you the ability to run to the Bahamas or other thin-water cruising grounds quickly and comfortably. The cockpit is innovative, with plenty of seating hiding a fold-away cockpit dining table. The salon is large and open, with a queen berth on centerline forward. A fresh approach from a first-rate builder, the PROWLER is perfect for a couple cruising for a long weekend. We don't know of another builder who has come close to the quality of material and workmanship Prowler represents. The proprietary RIVET system of production elevates composite yacht building to a level unknown by all but a few builders worldwide. Three major molds, one being the entire hardtop are what comprise this yacht, drastically reducing any opportunity for leaks. Prowler Yachts are built at Norsemen Shipyard along side the Marlow Explorer Raised Pilothouse Series. Norsemen Shipyard is an environmentally conscious facility featuring the very best in advanced tools and machinery, computer systems and a talented workforce trained by some of the top master yacht builders in the world in every department. Due to the advanced construction techniques pioneered and proven by the Marlow Explorer Series, we are able to offer the interior and cockpit volume of a much larger yacht. This complex tooling and production method rids the yacht of space-robbing heavy wooden framing commonly seen. Replaced by composite sandwiches similar to high performance aircraft, racing yachts and race cars, the technique allows far greater interior volume while producing a much stronger and lower maintenance yacht.

Cat like performance, highly advanced technology and the finest attention to detail have created another benchmark for excellence from Marlow Yachts that others could only attempt to emulate. For more information contact Marlow Prowler at 800-362-2657 or email sales@prowleryachts.com

  • NEWS BULLETIN April 29, 2006 • The World Superyachts Awards • It is with great satisfaction that we announce that Marlow- Norsemen have been awarded the coveted World Superyachts Award for our environmental policies. This Environmental Award was presented to David Marlow during a Gala Evening at the fabulous Fondazione Giorgio Cini in Venice on April 28, 2006. The World Superyachts Awards are presented annually and the elite judging panel is comprised of owners, project managers, captains, naval architects, shipyard owners and engineers. Marlow-Norsemen have pioneered environmentally responsible marine manufacturing on a global basis and this Award is in recognition of their success. Boat International publications will be including complete information about the Superyacht Awards in their upcoming issue as a supplement and we could not be more honored and appreciative to the Superyacht Society for bringing this important issue to the forefront of our industry's attention. NO marine company has ever received this award.

Norsemen Shipyard Ltd., and Marlow Yachts Limited have been building the finest yachts possible for almost 6 years and enjoyed the accolades of their accomplishments worldwide. They have done this while holding firm to their commitment to protecting the natural systems upon which all life depends while lifting people out of poverty and advancing economic development. This mission, Marlow believes, is among the greatest challenges confronting humanity and the policies and practices we adopt today will shape not only our lives, but also those of future generations.

We encourage you, the consumer, and others within our industry to follow our lead – and the most effective way you can do this is by proving to the industry that you, the consumer, do care about how the product you purchase is manufactured. You, the consumer, do care, not only that the product you purchase is of quality, but that it is built by a responsible manufacturer who understands a yacht, of any size or description, is only as enjoyable as there are waterways and clean oceans to enjoy it with.

As consumers, you hold the greatest power of all to make a difference.  This IS where we have a choice.

You can support the responsible companies that protect our beautiful earth and shun those that would abuse it.

  • PRESS RELEASE February 24, 2006 • MIAMI, FL • Marlow Yachts Limited, Inc. recently hosted over 100 owners and owners in waiting at their Miami International Boat Show debut party, February 15, 2006.

Held at the Miami Beach Rod & Reel Club located on exclusive Hibiscus Island near Miami, guests and representatives of the international dealer network came from around the world to enjoy an evening of entertainment, socializing and viewing of the latest Marlow offerings.

Front and center sat the latest Marlow Prowler edition. The Open 375, under a full moon, poised dockside charming in appearance and rugged by design, its sensuous muscle visible beneath the lovely cabinetry and fiberglass workmanship. Flanking it on one side was the latest version of the Prowler 375 Classic. Introduced 12 months earlier at the same venue, the latest 375 Classic was stunning in a new deep green custom color by Marlow.

Although this new Prowler is classified as the Open version she sports a very comfortable interior arrangement tucked under the sleek foredeck. The cockpit features all the tools and toys to allow any water sport activity from fishing to diving, including refrigerated fish box, with logically designed and arranged tackle center and storage. A carefully designed bait tank doubles as an onboard aquarium, if preferred. This low volume, limited production yacht will be available with a variety of power ranging from twin and triple outboards to twin diesels of up to 500 horsepower each in conventional inboard drive systems.

Hull number one of the Prowler 375 Open achieved speeds of well over 50 miles per hour powered by triple E-TEC Evinrude outboards with full water and fuel tanks aboard. Serving as the backdrop for a prestigious magazine’s annual Swimsuit Issue immediately following the Show, the Prowler Open complimented the entrants perfectly.

Also on display dockside were the flagship Marlow Explorer 78E and the Marlow Explorer 53C, featuring a new cockpit design and interior arrangement.

The 78E is the second Marlow Explorer purchased by an experienced yachtsman, following a 70E version that cruised from Venezuela to Nova Scotia before being traded up to the new 78E. The new 78E is scheduled to follow and enlarge the seapath of the previous 70E.

The 53C was built for a long term Marlow customer and will travel the great loop in her first spring and summer with trips to Maine and the Bahamas in the near future.

The Marlow Yachts Miami Debut Party has become an annual event since the first Marlow Explorer 65C debuted at the 2001 Miami International Boat Show. Each year, the owner's list grows and the party affords them all an opportunity to meet and share their ownership experience.

Several new Explorer and Prowler models are already under production for debut at the 2007 Marlow Yachts Miami Debut Party.

      2005 •

  • PRESS RELEASE December 15, 2005 • SNEAD ISLAND, FL, December 15, 2005– Plans for a major expansion of Norsemen Shipyard, Ltd., located in Xiamen, China, which is the manufacturing center for the Marlow Explorer and Marlow Prowler Series of yachts were formally announced today by David Marlow.  An adjoining 50 acres of oceanfront property has been purchased to develop a visitor’s center and provide for future expansion. Despite currently occupying nearly 25 acres of pristine oceanfront land, the acquisition of additional land was necessary in order to meet the growing demands for production of the range of Marlow Yachts.

What began as a seed for a simple manufacturing company has now grown into a substantial company with enormous capabilities in every facet of yacht manufacturing including perhaps, the industries' most capable metal fabrication shop producing the exquisite hardware seen on all Marlow Explorer and Marlow Prowler Yachts. Norsemen now encompasses nearly 75 acres of waterfront land with approximately 250,000 square feet of purpose built enclosed manufacturing and support facilities sited in a green environmental and garden like complex. The complex includes nearly 200 modern apartments for the work force who choose to live on the campus complete with recreational facilities and learning center on site.

David Marlow oversees the development and marketing of all manufactured products for Norsemen Shipyard, Ltd, of which the majority are boating industry related. Marlow Yachts Ltd. is the majority stockholder in this rapidly growing enterprise. Auxiliary products that lend themselves to the manufacturing complex are considered but thus far have been limited to tooling for other yacht manufacturers, furniture items, windmill blades and carbon fiber wind tunnel housings.

China offered the opportunity to begin this new chapter with more natural assets than any place considered. With no preset notions, liabilities or encumbrances, China emerged the clear winner by virtue of the natural assets of people, suitable land, raw materials and support industries.

Purpose built masonry buildings are arranged to allow construction of up to 50 meters (164’) length and include a separate climate controlled precutting and storage building for FRP materials. For final finishing and fit out, a 30-meter wide by 60 meter long building with doors allowing virtually any size craft to enter was constructed.  The lamination shop measures 40 meters in width and 60 meters in length allowing multiple laminations at once.  The main assembly building is approximately 45 meters in width and 80 meters in length allowing multiple lines of production. Support buildings for the assembly center occupy more than 40,000 sq. feet, strategically located about the site.  A hand laid granite wall, which provides for beauty and great security for sensitive projects, encloses the entire facility.

A recent addition to the facility is the “torture chamber” water shower where every yacht is inundated for 24 hours under high pressure water to test for leaks. After passing this rigorous test, each yacht then proceeds to mechanical testing phase in the 100 meter test tank before being launched for a 100 mile open ocean voyage.

Norsemen Shipyard, Ltd. is among the most capable and financially stable companies in the world. With additional acres of land available as required, Norsemen is poised to become a preeminent force in International Yacht Design and Building.

After a considered assessment of the damage done to the City of Fort Lauderdale and surrounding area by Hurricane Wilma and the shortages of support services currently available to local residents, Marlow Yachts will not further stress these limited resources.

“I cannot suggest to my customers and staff they come to Fort Lauderdale at this most difficult time based on the current situation.”, said David Marlow, Chairman of Marlow Yachts.  “The limited fuel, water and other resources should be directed to meet the immediate needs of residents and emergency personnel.”

  • PRESS RELEASE October 3, 2005 • Marlow Yachts to Debut Explorer 72E-LR • Marlow Yachts will debut the latest addition to the Explorer fleet, the Explorer 72E Long Range Cruiser, at the 2006 Miami International Boat Show.

Continuing the design principal of the very best and most technologically advanced, the 72E-LR interiors will be built using Nida Core Honeycomb, veneered to the company's lofty standards in their own fully staffed and equipped mill. You will find no plywood beneath the exquisite furniture and panels in the Explorer 72E-LR. Nida Core Honeycomb composite interiors save thousands of pounds in weight and increase the strength of the interior panels compared to plywood with the added advantage that the honeycomb does not rot, peel or warp, ever. With her 20' 1 1/2" beam, the immediate impression is that of being aboard a much larger yacht.

  • PRESS RELEASE August 10, 2005 • Marlow Yachts Applies for Prestigious ISO 14001 Certification • Marlow Yachts and Norsemen Shipyard located in Xiamen, China, are committed to minimizing harmful effects on the environment caused by their activities and strives to achieve continual improvement of the factoy's environmental performance. To this end Marlow Yachts is currently under testing and type approval for the prestigious ISO 14001 category certification to augment and certify its commitment to quality manufacturing in an environmentally respectful manner.

ISO 14001 certifies that the manufacturer has implemented full environmental controls on every segment of the manufacturing process from purchasing through receipt and final use of the products involved. ISO 14001 further insures that the manufacturer has implemented a plan for proper disposal of non recyclable materials with proper storage and handling of byproducts intended for recycling.  This lofty standard requires that the manufacturer design and place emergency procedures for full containment of accidental spills or discharges.

From the day the first shovel of dirt was turned the protection of the pristine environment in which the Norsemen Shipyard facility is located was uppermost. Beneath the park like grounds 24 inches of crushed granite form an elaborate Roman drain collecting all liquids on site, including rainwater, routing them to 300,000 gallon cisterns to assure no accidental spillage escapes the site. These huge cisterns located at strategic points on the 25-acre facility serve as a catch basin for all liquids so any accidental spill may be isolated and properly disposed of. Should the cisterns become contaminated in any way they are easily accessible for pump-out and proper disposal of the effluent before returning to service.

For the normal day to day operations the cisterns serve as a vast reservoir of water piped to the fire control systems and are used to irrigate the lush landscaping, once again returned to the cisterns after passage through the filter beds of granite.

Furthering Marlow’s strong commitment to environmental issues and in the company’s pro-active approach to sound environmental policy, Marlow Yachts will no longer offer Halon 1301 (typically used in fixed systems) and 1211 (found in hand held extinguishers) as fire suppressant for machinery spaces.  Although more expensive, FM-200® is the clean, safe and environmentally friendly gaseous extinguishing agent internationally accepted and approved as the leading choice for the protection of people, high value assets and a suitable Halon replacement.  FM-200® is electrically non-conductive, occupies minimal storage space and has zero effect on the earth’s stratospheric ozone layer. Its primary action is through cooling the fire and removing heat energy so that the combustion reaction cannot be sustained.  This pace-setting compound does more than prevent fire damage. Containing no particulates or residues, it virtually eliminates the risk of damage to delicate equipment caused by the extinguishing materials.

Marlow is proud to be a pioneer in responsible manufacturing on a global basis and the first pleasure powerboat manufacturer in Asia to make application for ISO 14001 Certification.

  • PRESS RELEASE June 30, 2005 • Marlow Yachts to Reintroduce the Explorer 65C •  Five years ago, the Marlow 65C Explorer was introduced to the world at the 2001 Miami International Boat Show.  Since that time, the Explorer Series has grown to include 11 models in sizes ranging from 53’ to 78’.  Hull #65-1, “Sandpiper” has traveled the globe from Venezuela to Newfoundland and is recognized still as one of the best built yachts in the world.

The enhancements to the Marlow Yachts since the debut five years ago number in the 100’s and the new 65C being showcased at this year’s Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show incorporates all of the advancements the builder has developed since her sister’s birth. The Mission Statement of Marlow Yachts, “Each One Better Than the One Before” is more than given lip service. Only the very best in materials and workmanship is employed in each Marlow Explorer Yacht.

Some  notable advancements to the Explorer 65C include:

    ·    The Explorer 65C weighs in at approximately 4,500 lbs. lighter than Hull # 1 due to Marlow’s perfecting the fiber/resin ratio to almost textbook results during lamination.

    ·    A complete mold (upper and lower) infused hardtop.   Marlow is the first to execute this type of molding process using their proprietary RIVAT system.

    ·    A modified exhaust system greatly reducing the higher sound levels caused by new high pitched Turbo engines.

    ·    Fuel capacity has increased 400 gallons to a total of 1,900 gallons due to a new fiberglass fuel tank mold fabricated specifically for Explorer, fitting precisely within the available space.

    ·    Advanced air intake system negating all moisture and salt in the engine room.

    ·    Advanced radiant barrier in the engine room reducing heat emanating throughout the yacht.

    ·    Custom fuel delivery system designed with only one value controlling all fuel delivery.

    ·    Engines are mounted on polished stainless steel 316L mounts that run forward and aft the entire structure greatly reducing vibration, preventing misalignment and transmitting the load throughout the entire yacht.

  • PRESS RELEASE June 6, 2005 • INTRODUCING THE NEWEST MARLOW YACHT...

For more information contact Marlow Prowler at 800-362-2657 or email dottie@rdyc.net.

  • PRESS RELEASE  Fort Lauderdale February 23, 2005 • Marlow Explorer Yachts Hosts Over The Top Debut

Charming a gathering of over 100 owners and owners in waiting, Marlow Explorer Yachts hosted a debut party to toast their latest Explorer 57E Skylounge and much anticipated new line of day cruisers, Prowler, prior to the opening of the Miami International Boat Show. The Miami Beach Rod & Reel Club set a perfect scene reminiscent of a Gatsby evening for this event; sparkling candles, soothing music, beautiful yachts to lust over with the occasional exotic wildcat striding by.

The first in the Prowler series, the Panther 375, arrived at the party with her mascot, “Dameon”, a young and beautiful leopard who sat regally overlooking his domain. The Prowler Panther 375 represents an entire new direction for Marlow Explorer but the company mission remains the same, bringing the highest quality product to the marketplace with no detail unattended. The Prowler series, from the first entry with the Panther 375 to whatever the future may demand will be richly endowed with this spirit of excellence and innovation.

Much like Marlow’s environmental concerns in all his business endeavors, “Dameon”, one of natures most elegant creations, seemed the perfect representative for the sleek and low profile Panther Series. “Dameon” lives at the Horseshoe Creek Wildlife Foundation in Davenport, Florida, a sanctuary dedicated to the care of sick, injured, orphaned and unwanted wildlife. A very special eight week old golden tabby tiger, completely extinct in the wild and one of only 50 living in captivity accompanied “Dameon” to the debut party stealing the hearts and attention of all the guests. It is Marlow’s hope that the beauty and elegance of these exotic wildcats would remind us all to do our part on a daily basis to save the world for future generations.

  • PRESS RELEASE Fort Lauderdale, Florida Marlow Introduces Explorer 53C

Marlow Explorer Yachts unveiled at the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show. Confounding the industry, which fully expected Marlow to develop ever larger versions of his very successful 57-78’ series, they have continued the development of the series downward to answer repeated inquiries for a smaller Explorer, capable of extended ocean voyages.
This new 53 series is styled just like her larger Sisters and is easily managed by a couple. Her large fiberglass fuel and stainless steel water capacities allow far ranging destinations and the unique and proven hull design guarantees comfort in less than ideal conditions should they arise. The 53C will astonish with the internal volume in this new model. With a beam of only 2” +- less than the 57-65 series it provides a wonderfully spacious stand up engine room the Marlow Explorers are famous for and commodious accommodations everywhere. Marlow has managed to include three lovely cabins forward with two very large heads. One cabin doubles as an office stateroom and features an “open plan” with double opening pocket doors to the companionway for a more spacious and open look and feel. The large engine room is simply not to be fully comprehended until seen. Spacious and well lit with dual lighting systems, no less than four high volume cooling fans and a finish level that must be seen and compared to understand. Of course his proprietary sea chest system that filters the water before it enters the yacht and distributes far more water than required is a major component of the mechanical systems. Combined with his common drain system this innovative answer to cooling supply and discharge eliminate as many as 35 holes in the bottom and side of the yacht. This new Marlow Explorer model continues the innovative and immensely strong method of infusing foam and fiberglass bulkheads and floors throughout the yacht. The industry standard is plywood and though serviceable cannot match the high technology of fiberglass sandwich construction for sound attenuation and strength with no maintenance ever. Marlow continues to expand his use of RIVAT©, which is Resin Infused Vacuum Assisted Transfer. Essentially what this does is infuse the high technology fabrics with exactly the right amount of resin. In the new 53 Series Marlow has developed a curved glass template for the front windshields for even better visibility. This glass is incredibly strong, being both laminated and tempered. We are aware of only two other yachts constructed using both tempered and laminated glass and none under 85’ using a thickness of approximately 14 mm, which is just under 5/8” thick.
