MARLOW YACHTS

The Marlow Prowler Yacht series, introduced in February 2005, features workmanship on a par with our Explorer series, which many feel are among the very best yachts on the oceans of the world. Piano quality joinery and finish combined with sound engineering and components, these limited production yachts are turning heads and hearts everywhere they appear.

Speed seems to be a big selling point for this type of yacht and the Prowler Panther Series delivers it in spades. This new entry will easily reach speeds of over 40 knots with optional power and over 50 knots with the three Evinrude E-Tec engines option. Its rich heritage dates to an era when iron men with a taste for life beyond that which most are bold enough to sample risked their lives, with survival entirely dependent upon the integrity of the build and the design.

The genesis of these lovely designs  springs from the period when men endowed with the cavalier spirit and unquenchable lust for life carried illicit alcohol from the exotic ports of the Caribbean basin, to the tables of the landed gentry. The western coastline of Florida, where the designer of the Prowler series was born was a natural epicenter of this activity with its myriad of coves, rivers and secluded bays. The turbulent Straits of Florida and the 400 mile open water stretch presented challenges for both men and equipment. The sleek, low profile rum runners equipped with powerful engines and piloted by watermen of great courage and formidable skills were more than up to the task.

Utterly dependent upon the designer and builder's integrity, these brave adventurers piloted sleek and powerful craft  across perilous waters without benefit of a rescue service or modern navigational aids. Though Prohibition had long been repealed, these hardy seamen continued their trade until the Cuban revolution in 1959 brought an end to this roguish period on the Florida waterfront and an exciting period in American history. Perhaps their longevity reflected that for many, the less common,  "hand made" image of fine cane whiskey was simply better due to the extra care in the brewer's art. So it is with the Prowler from Marlow.

Though the times have brought us plastic yachts trimmed in fur and mirrors along with store bought rum to sip in genteel surroundings, clothed in the latest factory built suits, dresses and similar, many of us hunger for the finer details and rewards of a life well lived.  The sleek and rugged craft those men chose are more germane today than ever. Our cargo today is our family and friends and the time even more precious in our fast paced world. And so, the seed for the Prowler was, as often is the case, germinated by practical realities, or simply the need for a better mousetrap.

Due to the advanced construction techniques pioneered and proven by the Marlow Explorer series, which is perhaps the most successful evolution in modern yachting history, we are able to offer the interior and cockpit volume of a much larger yacht, while producing a monocoque structure that does not shake, rattle and tremble when the weather kicks up. The complex tooling and production method employed at Marlow rids the yacht of space-robbing and heavy wooden framing commonly seen on these types of yachts. Replaced by finite engineered composite sandwiches similar to high performance aircraft, racing yachts and race cars, this technique allows far greater interior volume in a given envelope while producing a much stronger and lower maintenance yacht. There is simply no comparison between yesterday's "me too" mentality  and today's spirit of excellence.

The Prowler Series features two models, both outstanding in their configurations. The Classic was introduced first with powerful inboard diesels, a luxurious cabin with a full head and comfortable, spacious settee-dining area. The Prowler Open was just recently introduced in late 2006 and is powered by Bombardier Evinrude's astounding E-Tecs. While there are many options for the power, we chose to put three of these 250 horsepowered E-Tecs because they are clearly the the cleanest running, most economical and conservatively rated engines on the market in these horsepower ranges.
