TECHNICAL INFO | Features of Marlow Explorer Yachts

78 Hull with Molded in Openings for Portlights & Doors Our complex tooling produce beautifully finished hulls, superstructures and decks requiring a minimum amount of fairing and finishing. The portlights, windows, hatches and doors are all molded in to create smooth and finished openings for securely sealed installation of these components.

Three Major Molds

We chose to build very complex tooling that allows us to build the Marlow Explorer with a minimum number of pieces. Our yacht is built primarily from three major molds rather than the standard 40-50 molds most yacht companies use. We feel with fewer seams our yachts will remain tight and leak free for decades to come.

RIVAT© Hull with Kevlar Reinforcement

Marlow Yachts is a world leader in the exciting new technology of resin infusion. We have developed a process called RIVAT © (Resin Infused Vacuum Assisted Transfer). This technology literally infuses each fiber with precisely the right amount of resin while in the mold, with no room for human error in resin content. This is very important in that one drop of resin over the required amount to wet the fibers reduces the laminate strength. Our RIVAT© process is simply the highest expression of this state of the art methodology. At the same time the exclusive closed molding process employed with RIVAT© eliminates ozone depleting chemicals dispersion from the process.

Kevlar was chosen as a  hull fabric because it produces a hull that is more durable than common, old, low technology fabrics used by many manufacturers. The composite structure of Kevlar, vinylester and epoxy  resins, closed cell SAN-based foam and engineered fabrics is resin-infused while vaccuum bagged to produce state of the art safety without compromising hydrodynamics or speed with excess weight. It also produces a hull that can withstand the punishment of rough seas and impact with floating objects. Make no mistake about it, no solid laminate can match the strength and performance characteristics of a RIVAT© cored structure. In our view, verified by extensive research including destructive testing, solid laminates are the dinosaurs of the reinforced plastics industry except in very small specialized applications. If you asked an around the world race crew to go on board a solid laminate yacht it is doubtful you could find a single participant. These men and women risk their lives in all conditions. They do not go to port when the weather turns sour. Racing among icebergs in 40 foot seas, nothing but the best will do.

Lloyd's Register

Marlow Yachts are manufactured at the state of the art Norseman Shipyard facility, located near Xiamen, China. It is with great pride that we offer all sizes with the highest available CE certification by Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance for Category A (Ocean). CE certification is a quality and seaworthiness assurance program that employs increasingly higher specifications for certification to a given rating. The certifying firm makes no recommendations as to the level sought however the manufacturer  must pass ever higher standards to advance from the lowest (D, sheltered waters) to the highest (A Ocean Class).  The categories offered range from "D" indicating sheltered water usage up to the top category of "A", which Marlow builds to.

The definition of category A  is:

A. Ocean: Designed for extended voyages where conditions may exceed wind force 8 (Beaufort scale) and significant wave heights of 4 meters  (13+ feet) and above but excluding abnormal conditions, and vessel largely self-sufficient.

Marlow Explorer Yachts are now certified by ABS (American Bureau of Shipping), Lloyds Register, and ISO 9001, a status enjoyed by less than a handful of pleasure powerboat manufacturers worldwide and they are the first manufacturing in China to receive this level of certification.

Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance is one of the world’s foremost management system certification, business assurance and training organizations. Established in 1985 by the internationally renowned Lloyd’s Register, LRQA pioneered the modern day principles of quality assurance, and is now acknowledged worldwide for reliability, integrity and innovation.  Certification gives interested parties an assurance that management intent, defined in the documented management systems, is supported by evidence of the way work is actually performed.

Marlow Yachts is committed to minimizing harmful effects on the environment caused by its activities and strives to achieve continual improvement of its environmental performance. To this end Marlow Yachts is currently under testing and type approval for the prestigious ISO 14001 category certification to augment and certify its commitment to quality manufacturing in and environmentally respectful manner.  ISO14001 certifies that the manufacturer has implemented full environmental controls on every segment of the manufacturing process from purchasing through receipt and final use of the products involved. ISO14001 further insures that the manufacturer has implemented a plan for proper disposal of non recyclable materials with proper storage and handling of byproducts intended for recycling.  This lofty standard requires that the manufacturer design and place emergency procedures for full containment of accidental spills or discharges.

From the day the first shovel of dirt was turned the protection of the pristine environment in which the Norsemen Shipyard facility is located was uppermost.  Marlow is proud to be a pioneer in responsible manufacturing on a global basis.

Segregated Drinking Water Supply

The drinking water is pumped from its own top quality stainless steel tank with elaborate filtration incoming and outgoing. Separate faucets deliver the water for internal consumption and to the icemakers. With this system, your drinking water can be monitored and controlled to ensure a constant, excellent tasting water.

Exceptional Standard Features

The Marlow Explorers have included all the large and small features that make yachting a pleasure. The galley is served by SubZero, Dacor, Fisher-Paykel, Franke and Grohe appliances and fixtures. The use of natural stone, either granite or marble, is standard in the galley and heads. The floors are solid, premium hardwoods purchased, sawn, dressed and built by our own craftsmen rather than plywood with a thin veneer. The following is a list of many of the standard features:

  • on deck BBQ system
  • intercom system
  • washer/dryer
  • Cablemasters

Velocijet Strut Keels©

Marlow Explorer Yachts are designed and built to cross the oceans of the world in comfort and safety while the proprietary Velocijet Strut Keel© technology allows inland and island cruising with fully protected running gear. In the Marlow Explorer, engineered tunnels accelerate and shape the propeller thrust for enhanced performance at all speeds.  Directional stability is remarkably improved while significant drag reductions are accomplished.

Velocijet Strut Keels

The advantages of the twin keels are many. In the Marlow Explorer, the shaft and bearings are enclosed inside a foil shaped Strut Keel, eliminating drag of the struts and protecting the vital running gear from logs, deadheads, trash and dirty water that otherwise flow through exposed struts and their bearings. The shape and design of the Strut Keels reshape the water as the boat passes through it. These changes to the shape of the water and waves will affect the performance of the boat by reducing the stern wave causing a noticeable increase in speed for a given throttle setting.  The stabilizing action of the Velocijet Strut Keels©  reduce greatly the plunging motion usually seen in most boats. These fins are effective at dampening rolling motion and this effect increases with speed. This reduction in pitch and roll enhances the ability of the Marlow Explorer to go to weather thus increasing the performance of the yacht, providing increased passenger comfort and decreased fuel usage. The Velocijet Strut Keels© ability to shape the water allows for reduced rudder size by shaping the water to meet the rudders. The reduced rudder size reduces power requirements and promotes better economy.

Portuguese Bridge

For safety and comfort at sea, the Portuguese bridge is a very important feature. It is the area just forward of the pilothouse that is protected by a waist high bulkhead deflecting wind and seas providing a safer walkway around the exterior of the yacht. By deflecting the seas in heavy weather conditions, the side deck walkways stay relatively free of water.

Custom NIBRAL Propellers

NIBRAL PropellersThe propellers are custom made for us using an advanced technology called Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) construction. They are precisely cut from a solid ingot of nickel, bronze and aluminum - "NIBRAL "- providing for an incomparably smooth ride. Not only is the performance of the boat enhanced each one is a work of art.
